If you are a regular reader here, you know that I am not a Democrat. Nor am I a Republican. I am literally a card-carrying Libertarian. Yet, I just donated $10 to Marianne Williamson’s campaign. Why? I just watched her interview with Dave Rubin (https://youtu.be/BPhH5O6oMpE), and several things happened.
First, the more I heard her talk, the more sense she made. Now, I don’t agree with most of what she wants to do, but I can now see why she wants to do it. Something no other candidate, from even before I was able to vote, has been able to do. The social and news media have labeled her as what can only be described as a “whacko crackpot”, but there were several things she said, that make sense to me.
Maybe because I am a practicing Witch, and I know many people in my spiritual community who say similar things, I was able to quickly move past a lot of the crystal-crunchy wording, and on to the meaning and intent behind her words. Something everyone should do, with all candidates.
One of the things she said, is that she would create a department of Peace. As a Libertarian, I’m against making government bigger, but if you’re going to do so, creating a Department of Peace, is not the worst possibility. She is correct, when she says that hate is the driving factor behind conflict and war. That being the case, I can see where love would be the driving factor behind peace. If you want to end war, you must find another way to solve disputes.
New-age/Old-age
Yes, is sounds all new-agy, but she’s not wrong. Most of the terrorism we’ve seen from the Middle-East, has been because we have interfered in what should be their internal issues. We marched in, and told them what to do. They, rightly, resent that just as we would resent it if some other country marched troops into our country, and started telling us how to live.
Something else she mentioned, was that we don’t have a Healthcare system in this country, we have a Sickcare system. There’s no money in curing illness, but there is a lot of money in treating symptoms of illness. That is the primary reason we don’t yet have a cure for cancer. I absolutely understand that the responsibility of business is to make a profit, but when the bottom line is all a pharmaceutical company cares about, it is not taking full responsibility for itself.
So she talked about changing Healthcare from treating illness, to incentivizing healthier lifestyles. Living healthier is a holistic approach that we all understand, but because she voices the idea, she’s labeled as a kook. Is it kooky to eat a balanced meal, instead of just candy, or fast food? She’s absolutely right, when she points out that living a healthy lifestyle will cut down on medical costs. This is true of the individual, as well as the society.
She also talked at length, about what she calls America’s responsibility to Black America. Now, the idea that I should pay money to the great-great grandchildren of slaves, is repulsive to me, but I do see now, where she’s coming from. She’s not wrong when she speaks about what is now America, enslaving people, based solely on their skin color, for about 250 years. I do take exception when she adds the 100 years from Abolition to the Equal Rights Act. She believes that America engaged in Institutional Racism, for that 100 years.
Institutional Racism
Yes, there absolutely was institutional Racism at that time, but it was not America that did so, it was a few states. While the Federal Government may not have done anything to discourage laws such as Jim Crow, it did not pass such laws, states did. America as a whole, is guilty, only if you believe that a person who says nothing about a crime, is guilty of the crime.
If you listen carefully to what she says, she talks about the need for a spiritual cleansing of America, that it’s not a Black issue, but an American issue. I can agree with that. America needs to get past race. We should not be African Americans, or Mexican Americans, we should simply be Americans. These divisions are what the extremes on both sides use, to drive a wedge between us. It needs to stop, and she is the only candidate I have ever seen, with an idea of how that can be done.
Lastly, and most importantly, she is one of only two candidates I’ve heard, say that the reason she wants to be elected, is because she wants to serve the American people. The only other candidate to say that, is Tulsi Gabbard. Other candidates have to be prompted, before they say anything about serving the American people. That’s not how it’s supposed to be.
Marianne and Tulsi, are the only two candidates who I believe, when they say they want to serve. I don’t have to agree with their politics or policies, to admire their desire. This is what separates them from the rest of the 24 people in the pack. They want to serve us, and I believe it when they say so.
Marianne Williamson has absolutely no chance in this election, but I donated to her campaign, because unlike every other candidate, including Donald Trump, she isn’t running for her own benefit, but the actual benefit of her fellow Citizens. If every other candidate, in every election, were as “Whacky” as she is, our country would be a much better place, and people would no longer need to vote for the “lesser of two evils”.
